The Mombasa County Department of Environment and Solid Waste Management held a stakeholder engagement session on 31 January 2024 to understand the nature and scope of interventions by various actors in the sector. The European Investment Bank, Clean Oceans Project Identification and Preparation (COPIP), USAID, the British High Commission, the Royal Danish Embassy, and GIZ were all in attendance.

The stakeholders agreed to align their interventions with the Mombasa County Integrated Development Plan and quarterly meetings will be held to assess the progress and outcome of the interventions. COPIP will commence the Mombasa Solid Waste Circular Economy full feasibility study in mid-January 2024, after recently completing the prefeasibility study. COPIP is committed to undertaking detailed assessments on solid waste, identifying practical technical project options and components as well as outlining their financial and economic viability (capex and opex). These findings are crucial to improve the solid waste management sector in Mombasa.
