Picture from one transfer station in Efia Constituency in Sekondi Takoradi, Ghana. Waste segregation at source is coupled with many challenges:
- lack of awareness and readiness from the generators
- inadequate infrastructure that matches the local demand
- fewer reliable value creation options (markets)
- insufficient technology required for conversion.
With Tetra Tech International Development and Bigen Group through the COPIP project, we are conducting an intensive study to understand waste composition, waste generators’ attitudes and their economic power, market situation, technology components plus other components. This approach helps cities make better decisions on what sort of interventions can be deployed to solve the problem.
